Temper Trap urges fans to support Bali Nine ‘mercy’ campaign

The Australian band the Temper Trap, (you know the band that sings the “Sweet Disposition” song in 500 Days of Summer?) has been showing its support for the two Australian Bali Nine death row convicts up for execution.

The band’s front man Dougy Mandagi, who is Indonesian born, has been reaching out to the group’s fans to get behind Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukuamaran in their plight for redemption. Mandagi, a friend of Chan, is urging supporters to sign the “Mercy” petition (hashtag is #keephopealive) that the Bali Nine pair has put together to get their voices heard by Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

“The Andrew that walked in that cell 15 years ago would not recognise the Andrew today,” Mandagi says on his band’s website.

“Andrew’s life is just beginning and is now in grave danger of being snuffed out at its prime.”

“Dougy” has been active on Facebook and Twitter, trying to rally support for the Mercy Campaign with a number of posts.

However, it looks like Jokowi didn’t care what the band had to say, as news broke out this afternoon that Chan lost his bid for a presidential pardon, joining the club with Sukumaran who found out he lost his bid on January 7.

Chan and Sukumaran are on Indonesian death row as convicted ringleaders of a drug smuggling group dubbed the Bali Nine, that attempted to move 8.3 kilograms of heroin out of Bali in 2005.
