Kid jazz piano prodigy Joey Alexander misses hometown in Bali and martabak

Watch: Joey nailed his performance at the 58th Grammy Awards and even received a standing ovation.

Martabak is one of the things most missed by 12-year-old Joey Alexander, who left his home in Bali years ago to develop his budding musical talent.

Now the kid has already released an album that put two Grammy nominations under his belt and he happens to hold the record for youngest ever nominee in a Jazz category. To list a few of his accomplishments.

But even so far from home, Alexander still apparently misses his roots and our awesome island. This became apparent when the young jazz pianist candidly opened himself up to questions on Twitter today via video posts, giving his fans a chance to get to know him better, with the hashtag #askJoey.

“What do you miss most about Indonesia?”, one fan asked. Alexander’s response included family in Jakarta, beaches in Bali, friends, and martabak:

But seems like martabak’s not this youngster’s absolute fave, because when asked about whether he preferred American or Indonesian food, he started by listing burgers and other types of Western food, and Pad Thai, then followed by Japanese food, but he did mention fried rice at the end. Seems like he’s just a food-lover in general:

Too cute! Keep killing it Joey!
