Canggu-based fashion brand Desu has been gaining popularity in Bali with its innovative menswear and womenswear collections, blending Japanese-style streetwear with unique fabrics and techniques.
Designer Kate Arshanitsa launched the brand in 2011, fueled by her passion for leather-focused fashion and love for Japanese culture and style.
“The idea behind the brand has always been to create timeless styles with natural materials that make people feel fashionable and comfortable at the same time,” Kate said in a press release made available to Coconuts.
“It has been about creating form-fitting patterns that complement the figure while bringing in a futuristic and urban edge.”
Desu’s womenswear collection was launched in 2016, and the brand now offers a range of menswear too, with both collections featuring geometric shapes and layering. The brand’s architect-designed production house is located in Canggu, where everything from pattern-making to end production is done in-house, with a focus on handmade craftsmanship.
“We hand dye our fabrics and use our own specific wax technique,” Kate added.
“Everything from the pattern-making to the end production is done in-house. We believe that our attention to detail and the fact that our team has been working together for many years is why we continue to thrive.”
Desu’s attention to detail and emphasis on craftsmanship has contributed to the brand’s success, and its pieces are now stocked worldwide. Making a statement in the world of fashion, Desu can also be found in Paris, San Francisco, Ibiza, and Moscow.
