5 fun spots to spice it up in Bukit

Bali days can get repetitive sometimes. Surf, eat, beach, drink, sunset, eat, repeat. Hard life, eh? Yeah, no one should really be complaining. But for those who are hard to please and bored of surfing, bumming on crowded beaches, or fitting in with the latest trends, we’ve got you covered.

You’ll be having a good time and we know you’ll be feeling fine. Slam it the left or shake it to the right and check out these five fun spots down in Bukit to spice up your life.

Melasti Beach

If you want the best of both worlds (aka cliffs and beaches without the tourist invasion) then Melasti is the place to go. Not too many foreigners flood this place with their presence. Pop a squat on the beach alongside some locals, a temple, or a rock platform. The water there is a crystal clear turquoise with a backdrop of high-rise cliffs. What more could you ask for? You can choose to follow a snaking road down for sandy toes, or up for feeling close to the edge. We prefer to call it ‘suicide road’ because it’s danger waiting to happen. So take it slow, please.

We know the sun sets in every part of the world, and we’re not biased or anything, but Bali sunsets are the best. That’s true until your peace and tranquility is set off by heaps of people. Finding a quiet spot with an uber cool view is almost as tough as navigating your way through that mob. Finally here’s the spot you’ve been waiting to hear about. It’s at the end of a dirt road and at the top of a cliff, ideal for sunset but not for people afraid of heights. A permaculture garden is currently being built there, so hurry before it’s too late.

Padang Padang swimming point

This one’s for your next trip to Padang Padang Beach. Located towards the cliff on the left side of the beach there is a secret spot, near to the rock where fishermen sit. Just before that rock there is a cave-like passageway where you’ll find one of the best views on the island. The currents can get super aggy, so take caution when swimming out there. Floaties might be a good idea too. Actually, finding a local who can guide you is the best way because the lifeguards will likely blow their whistle in your direction. At least once you’re there you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the view.

Elevate Skate

When the surf’s not up, there are other ramps to ride. Surfers with less skating experience may go in head first and all we can say is hati hati. Make your way to Elevate, a community center with a skate park. It’s mostly a local hangout, which we love because it has incredibly welcoming vibe. There are certain scheduled times to skate so be sure to check the schedule.

Suluban

Yes, Suluban is definitely the most famous on the list. But it is certainly still unique. It’s not everyday you can climb down a bunch of steep steps and stumble into a cave beach. While this isn’t the right place to lather up in tanning oil in hopes to get 50 shades darker it is the right place for some pretty epic views (and photos of course). If you follow the stairs up, you’ll find you have your pick of cafes and warungs. Go there to watch crazy surfers (basically pros) tear up the waves. For most people, one wrong move and you’re in the rocks. That would be the end. Finito. But these surfers typically know how to show the water who’s boss.
