YUKI, a Japanese-inspired izakaya, launched this month on Uluwatu’s picturesque coastline. The restaurant combines traditional Japanese cuisine with local Balinese ingredients, offering a unique dining experience in an open-air setting.

Debuting on Aug. 1 in Uluwatu, the dining joint was built following the success of YUKI Canggu, which opened in December 2021. The Uluwatu branch aims to capture the essence of the region’s surf culture and coastal charm.

YUKI focuses on sustainably-sourced ingredients, including collaborations with local fishermen for freshly caught seafood. Executive Chef Yudha Permana’s expertise melds Japanese techniques with Balinese components, crafting inventive dishes.

The menu boasts a diverse range of dishes, from plant-based sushi to wood-fired specialties. Notable offerings encompass the Truffled Tuna Tartare, Nori Ahi Tacos, Line Caught Island Sashimi, Charcoal-grilled Yakimono Octopus, Wagyu Beef Sando, and various beef cuts with different sauces and sides. The menu also caters to vegan preferences, with dishes like Yaki Onigiri Chickpea, while also offering creative options such as the Torched Salmon Maki.

YUKI Uluwatu complements its cuisine with locally influenced cocktails. The cocktail menu highlights signature drinks like Yukies, Yuku Daiquiri, and Pulau Merah, each featuring locally sourced ingredients.

Designed by Kōsame, the restaurant’s interior reflects Japan’s wabi-sabi aesthetics, using sustainable materials like Java wood and Kerobokan stones. The 120-seat restaurant offers communal-style dining, an intimate bar, cozy seating, lounges, and private dining options.

YUKI Uluwatu respects Balinese culture, with its management and staff consisting of Balinese and Indonesian individuals. The restaurant’s journey began with a Melaspas Ceremony, seeking divine blessings to operate on sacred land, guided by Bali’s highest priest. This infusion of cultural reverence marks a significant milestone in the restaurant’s inception.
