Seminyak’s SugarSand has recently undergone a culinary transformation of sorts, introducing a new lunch, dinner, and cocktails menu.
Since opening in September 2018, SugarSand has attracted visitors with its contemporary Japanese cuisine, inspired by the famous izakaya style. The beachfront dining destination is also known for its stunning ocean views and vibrant atmosphere.
SugarSand’s decor is influenced by Balinese culture, featuring intricate details inspired by the traditional Balinese boat jukung, and combined with Japanese simplicity. The venue consists of two levels, with an infinity pool and communal area on the first floor, providing a relaxing space. On the second floor, there is an open-air lounge offering panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, ideal for unwinding and private gatherings.
Chef Syamsul Rizal leads the kitchen at SugarSand, bringing his extensive culinary experience to curate a menu of modern Japanese dishes using locally sourced ingredients. The chef has worked at renowned establishments, such as Nobu and Zuma, before joining SugarSand.
SugarSand offers a range of Japanese delicacies during the day, including Wagyu Gyoza, Chicken Katsu Sandwich, Tacos 3 Way, and a selection of sushi. As the evening sets in, SugarSand transforms into an izakaya concept, serving dishes like Gindara Miso, Spicy Tuna Sushi, and The Kiwami Wagyu Bollar Blade.
To complement the culinary experience, SugarSand’s mixologists craft enticing cocktails. Guests can choose from a series of Japan-inspired cocktails or enjoy the restaurant’s signature cocktails. Slow Cooked Infused G&Ts add a unique twist to the beverage offerings.
The restaurant features curated chill music played by in-house DJs, creating an inviting atmosphere for socializing. SugarSand aims to provide a haven where guests can enjoy fine food, drinks, and music while celebrating special moments in a beachfront setting.
