HOT SPOT: A bread bonanza up in the Bukit

COCONUTS HOT SPOT — There’s a new place for breakfast and lunch in the Bukit, conveniently located right in front of the entrance to Dreamland Beach, a great stopping point on the way to the Ulu beaches.

An addition to its flagship location in Sanur, Bread Basket has introduced itself in the Pecatu area as a clean and modern spot for bread, coffee, sandwiches, and dessert.

Even though it’s got a cute patio elevated from the street level, you’ll probably fare better inside with the rustic chic decor or upstairs on the terrace if you need that fresh air since the road is quite noisy with loud trucks and motorbikes rambling down Jl. Uluwatu.

For our first visit there, we went with the premium sandwiches: the featured salmon bagel and the beef burger.

The verdict:

The bagel was to die for, much softer and easier to sink your teeth into than those thick ones coming from neighboring Bali Buda, but the cream cheese was spread so thin that we hardly knew it was there (whereas BB is usually pretty generous with that keju). And what’s a bagel without cream cheese? The redeeming factor was definitely the ample-sized portion of smoked salmon laid on top.

As for the burger, it’s not bad, but there are definitely better burgers out there in Bali and you’re probably better off doing the “build your own sandwich” option instead.

If you’re craving something sweet, reach for the jam—it’s supplied by Ubud’s legendary Confiture Michele

But be careful, we got a strawberry juice blend and it was TOO sweet, so if you don’t want a sugar overload, ask for gulanya di pisah
