The award-winning Ubud restaurant Locavore is set to be reincarnated this summer as Locavore NXT, which looks to be an ambitious evolution of the sustainable dining project of chef owners Eelke Plasmeijer and Ray Adriansyah.

In a press release received by Coconuts Bali, Locavore’s only restaurant on Jalan Dewisita in Ubud is closing for good on an as-of-yet-unspecified date this summer, which is to be followed immediately by the opening of Locavore NXT at a location immersed in nature just outside of Ubud.

With NXT, Plasmeijer and Adriansyah seem keen to provide a transcendental dining experience.

“NXT will be a place where we invite you to sit down and taste our food creations, just as we have always done. But it will also be a place where you can join us on a journey of culinary revolution, if you want. We are ready to plant ideas and feed change,” the restaurant said in the release.

Digital renders of NXT show a vastly larger space nestled between lush surroundings and paddy fields. The new restaurant’s opening date and location will be announced in the coming months, so stay tuned for further updates here or via Locavore NXT’s official website.

The restaurant also noted that in the final months of Locavore, diners will receive a take-home package of “seed bombs” to help with the restaurant’s mission to “rewild urban wastelands.”

Locavore is the only Indonesian restaurant to regularly make Asia’s 50 Best list. The restaurant, which has been all about utilizing local produce in its dishes since its inception in 2013, won the Sustainable Restaurant Award in 2019.
