Escape from bustling Seminyak to this nearby chilled out rice paddy with good eats

COCONUTS HOT SPOT — A pretty spot amidst the rice fields with gentle soothing breezes, tasty food, reasonable prices, and cozy laid back atmosphere—it’s impressive how Nook has somehow remained inconspicuous since opening its doors back in April 2013. I suspect a conspiracy of local expats to keep the place as an oasis to escape nearby bustling Seminyak.

Not that I blame them. Starting off as a humble warung owned and managed by a Balinese family, Nook has since added a flair of western dishes like strawberry and feta salad,  to go alongside with their excellent local menu. Their nasi campur special—a mound of rice surrounded by mouthwatering combo of beef rendang, corn fritter, satay, tofu, tempeh, anchovies, veggies and more—is the main attraction.

But it’s also hard to complain about the other items on their list. My personal favorite is their Ahi Poke—fresh and tasty raw tuna sashimi salad. And for desserts, their strawberry (or mango, if you’re lucky enough to come in season) parfait is a heavenly texture and flavor euphoria of chunky fresh fruits, smooth chilled yogurt and crunchy muesli.

Some customers take advantage of the fast and surprisingly reliable wifi to take Skype calls here. The place is distinctly more quiet compared to other eateries so you can do that comfortably, and of course you get that effortlessly stylish background you know you love to show off to whomever you’re video-calling with. Just be sure to keep your volume in check as not to draw evil stares from your fellow chilled out diners.
