COCONUTS HOT SPOT — There’s nothing like some icy cold gelato to cool down and refresh from the Bali heat.
Jimbaran is the latest neighborhood to get a fresh dose of the frozen treat as Bali-based Gaya Gelato continues to expand across the island, after adding locations in Echo Beach, Sanur, Double Six, and its flagship shop in Ubud.
The new branch has us screaming for the freshness of gelato (instead of heavier ice cream) with its 100 percent natural ingredients—Gaya’s website boasts no food coloring, no GMOs, and no artificial flavoring in their gelato.
Flavors are apparently seasonal to match what fruits are locally available, with strong sour pops from lime to tamarillo and sweets like strawberry.
If you’re anything like us and can’t choose, just go in and sample everything like we did. The two gals working there were super friendly and likely won’t rest until you’ve tried all the flavors to your heart’s content.
Based on our sampling, we ordered the subtly sweet coconut (but of course), some nutty pistachio, and the coffee gelato—which is infused with the real stuff, perfect for espresso lovers.
The Jimbaran branch just opened up last Friday, but thanks to their convenient location up the hill on Jl. Uluwatu next to nasi camper paradise, Campur Campur, the shop seems to already have a fair share of customers.
It ain’t cheap (as one small cup of gelato at Rp 25k equals one big portion of nasi campur—with meat—next door), but sometimes you just got to indulge. Now we totally understand the Italian philosophy of “la dolce vita.”
