9 Bali seafood restaurants serving up mouthwatering, fresh seafood

What’s a trip to Bali without sampling the fresh seafood? Thanks to the rich waters, there is never a shortage of restaurants in Bali that serve up sumptuous seafood cooked just the way you like it! Are you ready to go on a virtual tour of all the best seafood restaurants in the island? Here are nine of Bali Kid Guide’s must-visit Bali seafood restaurants serving fabulously fresh seafood.

1. Cut Catch Cucina

Cut Catch Cucina is located in Sofitel Bali Beach resort, and since it opened in 2014, the restaurant has repeatedly won local and international recognition as one the best Bali Seafood Restaurants. Of course, you simply cannot go to Cut Catch Cucina without trying out its extensive seafood options. The restaurant has a standalone grilling area where you can choose all sorts of fresh seafood and have it grilled perfectly. If you are coming in with the whole family, go for the Sunday Brunch because of the eye-popping selection of seafood and desserts. Even better, children below 12 years old can dine for free. You’ll also get free access to the adjacent pool and enjoy your meals while being serenaded by a live band.

2. Benoa Fish Market

As the name suggests, Benoa Fish Market is a massive wet market that sources fresh seafood from the abundant waters around Bali. But now, the market isn’t just about selling and supplying fresh seafood to Bali’s restaurants. A dining area has been set up within the market. Essentially, you will pick all sorts of seafood you like from the market, go to the dining area and have all the seafood you bought cooked according to your liking. What a fun concept!

The main dining area overlooks Bali Wake Park’s artificial lake and has comfortable wooden seating with low tables. You can either sit inside the dining area or al fresco to enjoy the gorgeous view. Our recommended must tries are the seafood bucket, seafood pasta, and seafood thin crust pizzas.

3. Sambal Shrimp Restaurant & Bar

Think of Sambal Shrimp Restaurant & Bar as Bali’s answer to the crazy popular Bubba Gump. As its name suggests, Sambal Shrimp Restaurant specializes in shrimp-based dishes and seafood. The dining area is airy thanks to high ceilings and all-wood interiors. A visit to Sambal Shrimp Restaurant & Bar isn’t complete without trying the house special: Sambal Shrimp. We also love the shrimp satay, butter, and garlic shrimps and grilled squid. Sambal Shrimp Restaurant additionally features a bar counter that serves up a wide selection of cocktails, beers, and other spirits.

4. Urchin Grill and Raw Bar

Urchin Grill and Raw Bar is one of the newest seafood restaurants Bali’s Seminyak area. According to Australian chef and owner Steven Skelly, his vision is for Urchin to offer a five-star dining experience without the sky-high prices. The restaurant features expansive, airy interiors with an open kitchen. It’s quite exciting watching chef Skelly together with his staff, creating sumptuous seafood feasts from scratch. As far as the dining experience goes, we loved the casual dining, the open kitchen, and the cozy seating.

And of course, the food is just as impressive. We love the roasted barramundi with braised cos and shimeji mushroom consommé and the savory crispy skinned red snapper served with carrots, almonds, and sherry vinegar. Urchin Grill also features a raw bar that serves up a variety of raw dishes, including coral trout carpaccio, sashimi, sushi, and tartare.

5. Meads Beach Bar & Grill Bintang

Meads Beach Bar & Grill is an award-winning restaurant and bar located in Tanjung Benoa. This Bali restaurant is the brainchild of Warren Mead, a celebrity restaurateur who fell in love with Bali (who can blame him?) and opened this restaurant. We love Meads Beach Bar & Grill because of the fantastic selection of fresh seafood and the convenience. You see, the restaurant is just a few minutes away from Bali Collection, which is one of the hottest shopping hubs in the area.

Meads Beach Bar & Grill boasts over 35 years of experience, mastering the art of cooking fresh produce and seafood perfectly to bring out their delicate flavors. Some of our favorites on the menu are the seafood chowder, fresh oysters, smoked salmon, Mahi-Mahi fillets and the house special, Black Tom Mash! We also love the battered squid rings (perfect with cold beer), Mead Special (a medley of oysters, smoked salmon, chives, and cream), and the seafood duo of snapper and king prawns in garlic sauce.

6. Menega Cafe

Any seasoned traveler will tell you, the best Bali seafood restaurants are located in Jimbaran Bay. After all, Jimbaran is the undisputed seafood capital of the island. This is the best place to dine on freshly caught seafood at and watch the sun sink into Jimbaran Bay.

There are dozens of seafood restaurants in the area but Menaga Cafe has the best reviews and we can vouch for them firsthand. People literally line up for tables at Menega, which is why we recommend arriving early (well before sunset) to beat the crowd. The cafe offers a dizzying selection of seafood. We love the jumbo prawns, the lobsters, clams, barracuda, red snapper, and octopus! You can choose fresh seafood from the tanks or ice trays and have your pick cooked exactly how you like it.
