Canggu Nightlife: 5 places to go out in the Gu

If it’s happy hour somewhere in the world, then it’s always Bintang time in Bali! To get things going, party hoppers can check off the touristy spots by killing it in Kuta and getting shwasted in Seminyak. But once you’re finished in Kuta and Seminyak or you just want to keep it “classy” (as classy as being drunk might be), head to Canggu. The booze will be waiting.

The Canggu bar scene is stocked with top shelf venues, funky fresh beats, and muddled with expats, short-term Bali drop-ins, and our favorite locals. If the surfers waking up for the 6am sunrise waves can make it out and about, then there is something to be said about Canggu nightlife. Which also gives you no further excuse to not crash the party (sorry not sorry).

Take our advice, go grab yourself a drink (or several!) at one of these five Canggu classics.

Pretty Poison

Think Avril Lavigne’s famous hit Skater Boi meets the Calvin Klein Bieber ad-style look and amp up the grunge factor. Pretty Poison is where you’ll find Canggu’s “coolest kids”, an off the grid type place where tattoos and piercings mix with pastels and flowers. As people grab a beer, they form the peanut gallery to skateboarders riding a fishbowl ramp. On Monday they show movies, Tuesday is open mic and acoustic night, and a live DJ plays on Thursday and Saturday. If you’re ever bored of the beach, just head on over to where all of the kings of boarding chill.

Old Man’s

There’s one thing that brings surfers and beach bums together: a well-known Old Man’s vibe. Next to Echo beach, Old Man’s has the right amount of chill wave. Just beware of certain days when there’s a strong current of rave. Wednesday has become the new Friday and Sunday, well, it’s still just fun day. It might be called Old Man’s but a night out there never gets old.

Finn’s Beach Club

They say money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy you an expensive happy hour special at Finn’s. The drinks come with a beachside view ideal for people watching, an infinity pool (because the ocean is apparently too far) and a priceless front row seat to view a beautiful Bali sunset. As you get a beach buzz, a live DJ keeps the mood with a tropical electronic soundtrack. It’s a win-win spending those Rupiah’s at Finn’s.

Black Shores

If drinking is an art then the mixologists at Black Shores are the Van Gogh’s of the bar world. The way they create and craft cocktails is the perfect way to have a starry night. Especially at their Black Friday weekly event. A whole set of artists pop up in the bar: babers can work their magic on your hair or you can ink your body with some tattoo art. The world is your canvas, so fill it with drinks, haircuts, and tats!

Sand Bar

“The party stops when the bar shuts,” said no one ever. We all know the real party doesn’t start ‘til we walk…on the sand, right? At least that’s the way it is in Canggu. Sand Bar is the caffeine rush that all the sleepy lads need. Once they go they’ll learn that the after hours are always filled with higher doses of shenanigans. Be sure to check it the rowdiest on Wednesday and Sunday!
