5 fun things to do in Bali this weekend (March 25-27)

1. KEROBOKAN: Shop Pasar Malam

Rub elbows with local artisans and shop for cool, handmade, crafted stuff from food to art to fashion at a night market set up at the hip, Indonesian fine dining hot spot, Republik 45 in Kerobokan. This is the second time around that the restaurant is hosting a Pasar Malam—because of the crowd last time, reserving a table in advance is highly recommended.

This event won’t be as cheap as shopping at your neighborhood toko oleh-oleh (souvenir shop) but at least you can walk away with unique, one-of-a-kind stuff that wasn’t mass-produced in China and you’ll be supporting the event’s partner, charity Bali Children. There’s going to be a Belgian DJ there too, DJ Pyrope.

When: Saturday, March 26, 7pm
Where: Republik 45, Jl. Raya Kerobokan no. 86A

2. ULUWATU: Sing happy birthday to Single Fin

Cliffside bar Single Fin is known for its legendary Sunday sunset sessions, but the one this weekend is going to be extra special. Throwing a party to celebrate its 5th birthday, this will be a Sunday sesh to remember—or not because you’ll be so drunk downing their “batch of mean tropical punch on the house(!!!) til it runs out”.

When: Sunday, March 27, sunset til late
Where: Single Fin, Blue Point, Uluwatu

3. AROUND THE ISLAND: Celebrate Easter

Of course many people in Bali won’t be celebrating Easter this weekend, but for those who want to, there’s plenty to do. Canggu, Nusa Dua, Seminyak, Kuta, and Ubud all have various Easter events going. Here are some of our picks, most of which are family-friendly:

4. GILI AIR: Get down at the Air Festival

Ok, so this one’s technically not in Bali, but it’s just a speed boat ride away!

Travel over to Gili Air this weekend and chill out and/or party hard at the Air Festival where you can boogie to the festival’s impressive line-up and still have plenty of time to enjoy some yoga, not to mention the world-class diving and snorkeling.

What’s cool about this festival is they’ve really demonstrated respect for the local community and the festival focuses on keeping its impact low, while at the same time giving back—a portion of each ticket goes towards funding three of their partner organizations on the island which include a local primary school, Gili Cares (for waste management and recycling), and Cidomo Vetrinary Clinic (supports the island’s horses).

When: Friday-Sunday, March 25-27
Where: Gili Air Island, Lombok

5. JIMBARAN: Sweat it out at the S2S CrossFit gym opening

Burn off all that Bali booze on Saturday morning and go for an intense (but free!) crossfit workout, or bring the fam for the free activities and bbq and watch other people workout at S2S CrossFit Jimbaran’s grand opening. Soccer and other field games, sand volleyball, basketball, and FitMeals tasting are all on the agenda at this family-friendly event.

If you’ve been curious to see what crossfit’s all about, but have been too intimidated by all these ripped eight-packed dudes, here’s a noncommittal, more low-key way to check it out. And rest assured, workouts can be scaled down for beginners!

When: Saturday, March 26
Where: S2S Jimbaran, Jl. Segara Wangi no. 36
