5 fun things to do in Bali this weekend (April 15-17)

1. LEGIAN: Give blood, save lives

If you really want to make your time in Bali count, donate some blood this weekend. We’ve so often seen desperate posts from Bali blood banks seeking donations of certain blood types, so here’s an opportunity to help make sure they’re all stocked up. ONE Legian is hosting a blood drive on Friday and their supporting partners at the event are also offering a free medical test. Just check below to make sure you meet all the donor eligibility requirements (e.g. haven’t gotten any recent tattoos or not just off antibiotics).

When: Friday, April 15, 8am-2pm
Where: The ONE Legian, Jl. Legian no. 17
Contact: training@theonelegian.com, 081238701576, 081327946089

2. CANGGU: Enjoy an art exhibit at Deus while sipping some wine

Set out for Deus on Friday evening and feel cultured and cool AF as you enjoy Indonesian artist Ryan Ady Putra’s Sentimental He-Art Club exhibit (yeah, we’re digging the name too). Inspired by street-art, the Pop movement, and the burgeoning effects of social media and commerce-at-large on the younger generations, Putra’s work should be thought-provoking and certainly not boring. Wine and cider will be free flowing from 7 til 8 pm.

3. UBUD: Take a crash course in bahasa

If you’re new to Bali and have been itching to learn some bahasa in a structured environment but don’t have time for an intensive classroom experience, jump into a basic Bahahsa Indonesia course on Saturday offered by Hubud and Cinta Bahahsa Language School. In a three-hour short course, you’ll learn and practice the essential words, phrases, numbers, and negotiating skills that will prove practical throughout Indonesia. You don’t need to become a bahasa master to see that Indonesians will at least appreciate your effort.

When: Saturday, April 16, 9:30am-12:30pm (weekly event)
Where: Hubud, Jl. Monkey Forest 88x
Price: Rp 250k

4. SEMINYAK: Kick off the weekend right at Lacalaca

Thank God It’s Friday, or in this case at the hip Seminyak Mexican Lacalaca, ‘Thank God it’s Frida.’ Two for one margs, a DJ, and free flow tequila, need we say more? The perfect conditions for letting out those Friday night feels and taking it to the dance floor. Oh yeah, and they’ve got some of Bali’s best homemade Mexican food! Enak!

When: Friday, April 15, 6pm
Where: Lacalaca, Jl. Drupadi no. 1

5. AROUND THE ISLAND: Understand the good, bad, and ugly sides of Bali with a documentary

While for many of us, this island is heaven, Bali’s not just the paradise that you see in glossy travel magazines and Instagram. On the other end of the spectrum there’s “spoiled Bali” filled with drunken Aussies in Kuta and the island’s never-ending war with drugs. To get a more nuanced look at our Island of the Gods, netflix and chill this weekend watching one, some, or all of these documentaries that show Bali’s flattering angles, as well its ongoing day-to-day problems
