PETITENGET: Boogie and Bourbon at the neighborhood speakeasy

Get the weekend fired off right the hangout for Bali’s coolest cats, 40 Thieves. Styled as a New York speakeasy bar, the prohibition vibes are strong at this place, which makes downing the bourbon and boogieing to disco all the more fun. Take advantage of the bar’s 2 for 1 cocktails from 10pm-midnight and get there before it’s too late, since space is tight.

Artists and creative types, get some of your favorite works together and gather with like minds in Canggu. The super homey Nest cafe is having a get-together for painters, filmmakers, photogs, writers, and any other creators and people passionate about art to connect and get to know the community better. Canggu is Bali’s hippest spot, after all, so we can only expect some pretty interesting stuff at this gathering.

UBUD: Learn more about the amazing Bali heritage dog

It doesn’t take much time in Bali to realize the island’s dog stray population is booming. But Bali dogs aren’t just any old mutts. In cooperation with BAWA, University of California Davis Professor Benjamin Sacks will be sitting down at Arma in Ubud to discuss what makes the Bali dog so unique and important and what we can learn from genetic studies. Sacks is the director of Mammalian Ecology and Conservation Unit in the Center for Veterinary Genetics at UC Davis.

UBUD: Get your raw food game up to snuff

It’s not enough to be gluten-free, vegetarian, or even vegan these days in Bali. Raw food is the movement sweeping through Ubud and to truly get your own grasp on it, best head to the island’s hottest raw food spot, Alchemy for some workshop time. The newly launched Alchemy Academy will teach their “cheese” cake formula, decorating techniques, raw chocolate basics, along with help creating your own recipe. Food demos, hands-on experience, recipes, and everyone’s favorite, chocolate tasting, is what’s on the agenda. Price is Rp 650k, FYI.

(This one’s technically not over the weekend, but every day’s a weekend for a lot of people in Bali.)
