Seminyak’s popular Motel Mexicola is expanding its presence with the launch of Motel Mexicola Canggu this August. The much-anticipated expansion comes on the heels of the motel’s milestone tenth-anniversary celebration, and it aims to replicate the signature energetic atmosphere and Mexican-inspired experience that has won the hearts of many.
Founder and co-owner Nicolaza Que Pasa expressed excitement about bringing the iconic motel-themed destination vibe to a different part of Bali’s south coast.
Mexican designer Carlos Cole, from Sensibilidad Aplicada in Mexico City, has lent his creative vision to the fit-out, which artfully blends with the beachy surroundings and nods to Mayan history. The decor will feature palapas with alang-alang roofs, technicolor tiles, terracotta floors, candlelit shrines, sculptures, and ruin-style stonework.
Gerry Wedd, the acclaimed Australian surfer and ceramicist, will once again contribute his artistic touch to the crockery. Additionally, Tom Robinson, director of OMG Agencies, has been overseeing the branding and handmade glassware to ensure a seamless aesthetic.
The culinary experience at Motel Mexicola Canggu is curated by Mexicola Group Executive Chef Steven Skelly, who offers an extensive menu celebrating the regional cuisines of Mexico’s southwest and the Yucatán Peninsula.
Classic favorites like guacamole, esquites, tostadas, ceviches, and churros will be available, while the focal point remains the eight-meter pibil, a traditional fire pit used for roasting proteins, vegetables, and house-made salsas. Tacos, served on house-pressed corn tortillas made from imported masa, will showcase mouthwatering fillings, such as braised beef cheek with BBQ bone marrow salsa, achiote-marinated pork shoulder, chorizo with pit-smoked potatoes and lardo, and roasted pumpkin with black beans.
Beverage enthusiasts can anticipate an impressive selection including classic favorites such as Micheladas and Margaritas will be served alongside innovative variations like Palomas amped up with tequila, mezcal, pomelo, and lemongrass.
Notable additions include charred pineapple Horchata spiked with spiced rum and rice-milk foam, as well as unique twists on the classic Margarita, featuring dragon fruit and lychees with a Tajín rim, and a coconut-infused Coca Loca with house coffee liqueur and house-made Mexicola.
As the highly-anticipated opening approaches, Motel Mexicola Canggu is set to offer a new and captivating destination for both locals and tourists to revel in the vibrant Mexicola spirit.
