The trial of Kim Anne Alloggia, an Australian woman who was arrested for alleged possession of liquid marijuana, began yesterday at the Denpasar Court, where she faces judgment under Indonesia’s notoriously harsh drug laws.

The 51-year-old was arrested in Bali in March after her American friend sent her a vial of liquid marijuana in the mail. According to a report from Detik, police searched the package she’d received then and found a vial containing yellow-colored liquid that authorities suspected were drugs.

According to police, Alloggia reportedly denied having ordered the vial, but admitted that it had been sent to her by a person she knew. The liquid in question was then examined and confirmed to contain narcotics.

“The police asked the defendant about the vial containing yellow liquid, and she claimed to have not ordered it but instead received it from a friend named Kim E Artist; however the defendant admitted responsibility for the package she’d received,” prosecutor I Gusti Lanang Suyadnyana said on Tuesday, as quoted by state news agency Antara.

Under Indonesia’s stiff drug laws, Alloggia could face up to 15 years in prison for narcotics possession. Her trial continues on June 18.
