The pair allegedly behind the child sex trafficking case that was uncovered in Jl. Sekar Waru, Sanur, earlier this year could have been making net monthly salaries of more than IDR200 million (around US$14,000), according to a report in local-language news portal, Jawa Pos.
Ni Komang Suciwati, 49, and Ni Wayan Kristiani, 51, were arrested by Bali Regional Police after a raid on Fri, Jan 4, revealed five child prostitutes, trafficked from Bekasi, Java, displayed like objects behind glass as part of a backyard brothel operation in the Sanur neighborhood. The duo have been detained for questioning at Bali Regional Police Headquarters in Denpasar ever since.
Lu Putu Anggraeni, the Chairperson of Denpasar Integrated Care Center for the Empowerment of Women and Children (P2PT2), a human rights group that assisted with the arrest, said that the operation as a whole could garner a gross turnover of up to IDR2.7 billion (US$ 191,780) per month before deductions and profit share.
The figure was based on the brothel’s 30 prostitutes (including the children) earning an average of IDR300,000 (US$21) per customer. “If one day the victim can serve ten people, then one victim can produce IDR3 million (US$213) per night,” said Anggraeni, as quoted in Radar Bogor.
According to Anggraeni, the IDR300,000 from each customer was divided between the two suspects, cashiers and other brothel employees, while the victims would only receive between IDR80,000 (US$5.70) and IDR110,000 (US$7.80) per night.
On the understanding that the two madams would take a cut of IDR55,000 per customer and each worker served ten men per night, their daily earnings would be IDR16,500.000 (US$1,172). Thirty days per month at that rate would make an estimated monthly total of IDR 495,000.000 (US$35,163) to be divided between the two ladies.
