Dead baby found in rice paddy ditch in Klungkung, Bali

Residents of Jumpai Kanginan Village, Klungkung were shocked by the discovery of a dead baby boy that had apparently been dumped in a rice paddy ditch.

The dead baby was found on Tuesday afternoon at the East Bali village around 4 pm by a local farmer who had been repairing the irrigation channel.

“I was shocked when I saw that there was baby lying face down. I was in shock and had to wait a passing resident to ask for help,” Nengah Tambig told Tribun Bali on Tuesday from the crime scene.

The baby’s placenta was still attached and he had a wound on his abdomen, while the body was omitting a foul odor, according to reports. His condition was made worse from exposure to flies.

Klungkung Police Chief Made Karsa said the body has been taken to Klungkung Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the baby’s exact cause of death.

Unfortunately it’s not overly uncommon to hear of reports of ‘unwanted’ newborns getting left for dead in some parts of Bali.
