The Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of I Wayan Candra, former regent of Klungkung, in a corruption case over the development of pier project in 2006.
Candra, who served as Klungkung’s regent from 2008 to 2013 and head of the regency’s PDIP party, was convicted in June 2015 of illegal gratification and money laundering in the procurement of land for the Gunaksa Pier Project.
Seems Chandra just didn’t know when to stop with his case because he was actually originally sentenced to 12 years prison by Denpasar District Court, but an appeal in September 2015 led to the Denpasar High Court upping his prison time to 15 years.
The Supreme Court has just now ordered to uphold that sentence of 15 years and the confiscation of his assets, reportedly worth Rp 42 billion, Tribun Bali is reporting.
His assets were seized by the Klungkung District Attorney in October 2014 and include his house and land across Nusa Penida and Klungkung.
