Residents of Desa Adat Timbrah, Karangasem, are cooking thousands of suckling pigs this week for Ngusaba Kedasa, Tribun Bali reported.
Ngusaba Kedasa is a Hindu ceremony dedicated to honor the goddess responsible for providing Bali with fertile land and prosperity, Dewi Danuh. It is a custom unique to only certain villages in Bali.
It is usually the responsibility of the head of the family to make the babi guling during the ceremony. The babi guling process takes about five days, during which other offering ceremonies also take place.
Tribun Bali reported that many believe this year’s ceremony will be all about restoring balance and expressing gratitude towards god for providing safety to the village’s citizens.
Villagers also reportedly said that they haven’t ran into any funds-related issue from having to “provide” thousands of pigs for the worship ceremony.
