The sight of 50 royal barges slicing through Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River this afternoon marks a historic end to the coronation of the 10th king in the Chakri Dynasty, His Majesty Vajiralongkorn.
From 3:30pm until sunset, dozens of river barges and 2,200 seamen will row the ornamental boats down Bangkok’s arterial river. The city has prepared 16 spots for the public to view the spectacle, including locations under the Rama VIII and Phra Pin Klao bridges.

Just after dawn this morning, Royal Thai Navy chief Adm. Luechai Ruddit presided over the ceremony at the Thonburi Naval Dockyard to pay homage to the ancient Thai deity Mae Ya Nang, believed to be the guardians of boats.
By noon, many people donning royal yellow and holding photos of the royal family were seen along the route the procession would pass.
