Oarsmen will row down more than 50 barges down the Chao Phraya River in a procession tomorrow marking King Vajiralongkorn’s coronation.

Though fares are being waved for some public transportation, the big event is sure to put the hurt on already suffering traffic citywide, and motorists should expect road closures throughout the day.

What’s Free?

The Airport Rail Link, MRT, BTS and BRT bus systems will waive faires for commuters all day Thursday. Free tickets are available at all stations and commuters can get a coupon at ticketing booths.

What’s Closed?

The Rama 7 Bridge Pier will be closed 1am through 7:30pm.

All water transportation between the Thonburi Bridge and Thai Naval Auditorium is forbidden from noon to 7:30pm, as well as between the Thonburi and Memorial bridges, 6am to 7pm.

The Rama VIII and Pinklao bridges will be closed 3:30pm to 5pm when the procession takes place.

At least eight roads will be fully closed: Rachini (until the Phan Phiphob junction,) Na Prathat, Phrachan, Phra Lan, Maharat, Tai Wang, Ratchadamnoen Nai and Sanam Chai roads.

These will be semi-closed: Sawankhalok (between the Yommarat and Saowanee junctions), Chakrabongse, Chao Fa and Phra Sumen roads.
