A 78-year-old American national, identified by his initials JBA, was found dead inside a car in Sanur earlier this morning. Police have yet to announce his cause of death, though suggested that there had been no signs of foul play.
“There were no signs of violence, and the victim was found dead while seated on the driver’s side, and he was still holding on to the car keys,” Denpasar Police Chief, I Nyoman Wirajaya, told reporters today.
Wirajaya said police also found medication to treat hypertension, aspirin, a digital thermometer as well as IDR2.1 million (US$149) in cash, among other things.
JBA’s car was parked in the parking lot of the Tropical Pool and Spa in Sanur, where he reportedly intended to keep it before he was to travel to Singapore.
“The victim called the witness [yesterday] and said he was going to leave for Singapore, so he asked for permission to park his car in front of the witness’ office,” Wirajaya explained.
He added that the witness, who is identified as TW by local media, found the car parked at 7am today. TW then went to the car and knocked on the door, but received no reply.
“The witness saw the victim sitting in his car, gave it a knock but there was no answer. Then he opened the car door and saw that he was already dead,” Wirajaya said.
Authorities have reportedly taken the deceased to Sanglah General Hospital in Denpasar, where he will undergo autopsy.
