Suu Kyi: State counsellor, foreign minister, table designer

What does Aung San Suu Kyi do when she’s not flawlessly fulfilling her duties as Myanmar’s state counsellor, minister for foreign affairs and minister for the President’s Office? She designs tables, of course.

The Ministry of Industry has announced that it will begin selling glass tables that were designed by Suu Kyi herself.

Daw Aye Aye Win, the director of the Ministry of Industry, told reporters in Naypyidaw yesterday: “[Suu Kyi] gave the design and measurement of the glass and explained where the glass should be. The Union minister is implementing the design. A lot of people like it. It was designed by her.”

Suu Kyi’s tables come in three designs and are priced at K100,000 each. They will be available at Win Thuzar stores, which are operated by the Ministry of Industry.
