Aged between 25 and 55? Completed secondary education? Have prior experience driving large vehicles as evidenced by ownership of a Class ‘B’ driving license that has at least three years’ validity? Always dreamed of driving a YBS bus?

If you answered yes to all the above questions, then today’s your lucky day because the YRTA is searching for individuals to train to drive the city’s public buses.

As it turns out, after importing over 2,000 shiny new buses to replace the current YBS vehicles, the YRTA has realized that there’s just one not-so-minor thing that they’re lacking before the new buses can be up and running: drivers.

But not to worry — to help make up for this minor oversight, the YRTA recently announced that they are launching a training program next month for all YBS bus driver wannabes.

The completely free course will commence in July and last three weeks.

A YRTA official told 7Day that there is currently no cap on the number of applicants that they will take on. Considering that they’ve imported 2,600 new buses to date, there really can’t be such a thing as too many applicants.

Those who successfully complete the program will be given a certificate permitting them to drive YBS buses. They will also be contracted to drive a YBS bus for at least the next three years.

Interested individuals have until July 6 to apply at the YRTA head offices.

And hey, maybe if you’re really lucky, you’ll be assigned to one of the buses that are testing out free Wi-Fi.
