Passengers will be flying in and out of Yangon airport’s new international terminal next week, according to the firm organizing the construction.
The opening date for extension, which will double the airport’s capacity from 2.7 million to 6 million per year, has been set for March 12, the Myanmar Times reported.
The newspaper quoted a spokesperson from Asia World Group, a subsidiary of which won the tender to build and operate the terminal in 2013.
The Myanmar government is targeting 7.5 million passengers per year by 2020 but we’ll have to wait until at least 2022 before the new giant airport in Bago Region is finished.
Work on that project, which would accommodate 12 million passengers a year, is due to begin soon.
