Yangon’s boundaries to be expanded: mayor

Yangon’s Mayor U Hla Myint said on Wednesday that city boundaries in the east and southwest would be expanded by 100,000 square acres by 2040, Eleven Media reported.

Citing a planning report at Yangon’s Regional Parliament, the mayor said the expansion would help deal with an annual population increase of 2.6 percent.

He also cited homelessness and squatting as reasons for the long-term move.
