Yangon police shoot man after attempted stabbing

A 35-year-old man was shot and wounded by police officers in South Dagon township on Thursday after he attempted to stab them, according to authorities.

Law enforcement officials responded to a call in the afternoon on Thursday about a man with a knife who was “making problems,” according to a post on the Yangon Police force’s Facebook page.

Arriving on the scene they found the suspect, identified as Win Khine Oo, a local resident. He disappeared into his house and emerged with a knife in each hand and attempted to stab police officers, according to the post.

He was shot in his left leg, police said, and sent to a local hospital. He was charged but police did not specify the counts.
