On Monday night, residents of Dagon Seikkan township in Yangon walked into the living room of a local resident, Daw Htwe Kyi, and found her dead, her body black and bruised, after her son smothered her to death with a pillow, according to the police.

Daw Htwe Kyi’s son, 34-year-old Saing Kyi Myint, was arrested yesterday by authorities after neighbors discovered his mother’s body in her home on 2nd street in Dagon Seikkan’s 60th ward, near the Pegu River.

According to the Yangon Police, Myint is an unemployed alcoholic who was frequently berated by his mother for his drinking habit and lack of direction in life. On Monday night, the 34-year-old allegedly snapped and suffocated his own mother with a pillow.

“We are pursuing charges under section 302(2) of the penal code for non-premeditated murder and will prosecute Myint to the full extent of the law,” a Dagon Seikkan police officer who requested anonymity told Coconuts Yangon

Myint faces a potential life sentence if convicted.

In a Facebook post on the Yangon Police official Facebook page, Myint can be seen standing in front of a red background with the murder weapon, a white pillow, placed in front of him on a blue table.

The suspect is also wearing a shirt that says “Mr. Nice Guy”, a chilling and ironic description in light of what he is accused of.
