Yangon’s airport has long been a curious island for arriving travelers, cut-off from the mainland of the city by expansive carparks, meandering roads and bumper-to-bumper traffic. Woe betide the foreigner who tries to escape the clamor of taxi drivers in search of public transport options or, even worse, to walk.
The simplest option is to take a taxi – costing at least K9,000 (about $9).
Now, one firm has proposed an airport shuttle bus that would bring tourists to and from downtown – a 45 minute journey that is sometimes longer with traffic.
“If a foreigner arrives the airport, he is afraid of expensive taxis,” Win Myo Chit, CEO of Greater Man firm, told 7 Day. “And there are only a few choices to choose what to ride. That’s why we planned [this].”
Aung Htet, the manager, said they still need to secure permission from the airport and transportation authorities.
“We can implement it within 100 days if we have permission,” he said.
