Yangon man stabs neighbor in row over drains

A neighborhood spat over clogged-up drains came to a nasty end on Saturday as a man allegedly stabbed his neighbor, causing serious injuries.

Police say Thiha, also known as Thant Zin, attacked 49-year-old Myint Htwe in front of parliamentary representatives who had come to inspect the drain and mediate between the two men, the Global New Light of Myanmar reported.

The victim was sent to Yangon General Hospital, while Thant Zin was arrested on the spot. Afterwards, the Yangon Mayor himself visited to inspect the drains.

Yangon’s drainage system is notoriously poor. Newly elected members of the regional parliament have prioritized cleaning it up, and stopping build-ups of trash, especially common during the rainy season.
