Read it and weep or read it and feast: KFC Myanmar is growing its presence in Yangon with two additional locations that should open next month.
Coming four months after the fast food chain’s local operation unveiled its first branch on Yangon’s Bogyoke Aung San Road in June, it is close to finishing outlets at Junction Square (the mall next to Pyay Road) and HAGL’s Myanmar Center (beside the Sedona Hotel).
“We’re probably going to be opening the next two outlets within a month to six weeks,” JR Ching, KFC Myanmar’s Managing Director, told Coconuts Yangon in an interview. “And those are both under construction nearing completion.”
“Before the end of November for sure,” he added.
The outlets will be similar to the one on Aung San Road, but Junction Square’s will have an extra “function room” for private events or parties.
KFC Myanmar is a partnership between Yum! Brands and Singapore-listed Yoma Strategic Holdings. The quarter ending September 30 marked the first time KFC Myanmar sales results were included in Yoma Strategic’s financial records, which will be disclosed in the next round of public filings.
Ching said the first outlet is doing “phenomenally well,” but declined to reveal figures ahead of Yoma Strategic’s reports.
He said the long lines outside have disappeared because the branch has created a more efficient service operation to deal with larger groups.
“The lines are no longer there, but the transaction volumes are quite high.”
