Yangon bus lines donate a day’s wages to victims of flooding

Yangon bus lines are donating one day’s income to victims of flooding that has claimed eight lives and displaced hundreds of thousands across Myanmar in recent weeks.

On different days this week, drivers, conductors and other staff on various lines are giving up their wages to the cause. On some lines, passengers can pay what they want as a donation, in place of the usual fee.

Bus line 254 donated Monday’s takings to the cause, according to the Voice. “We don’t charge a certain amount for the fee,” said a conductor. “They [the passengers] can pay as much as they want.”

These are the lines to look out for: 202, 49, 31, 107, 245, 103 and 108.

There are some 300 bus lines in Yangon so not everyone’s taking part.

“Some bus lines notified me that they were donating their one-day income,” Hla Aung, chairman of the Bus Line Committee, told the Voice. “Some did not notify.”

Tsk tsk.
