Woman’s arm reattached after gruesome family knife fight

A 50-year-old woman whose arm was hacked off during a family dispute has undergone successful re-attachment surgery.

The six-and-a-half hour operation was performed at Yangon General Hospital on April 27 by three surgeons specialising in hand and re-constructive surgery, the Myanmar Times reported.

“The patient is doing well and can be discharged in the next one or two days,” the newspaper quoted Dr U Khin Maung as saying. “But it will take at least a year for the hand to return to normal.”

Speaking at a press conference, he sent out a peculiarly specific message to future victims.

If your hand should be severed, he advised, keep it cold and dry and call these numbers: 01-256123, 01-256112 or 256114 (ext: 856).

Here’s hoping you’ve still got the other hand.
