Woman ‘hypnotized’ and robbed of gold jewelry on Yangon street

Two men reportedly tricked a 45-year-old woman into swapping her gold jewelry for a box of rocks in Kamaryut Township on Friday.

According to an account the woman gave local police, she was waiting for a bus in the morning when two men approached her, saying they were gem traders.

They told her to hand over her gold earrings and necklace in return for a box – when she looked inside there was nothing but tiny rocks.

She put the episode down to hypnosis.

“She was standing in the street strangely for a while,” a witness told The Voice Weekly. “She came to her senses again after a local resident touched her.”
