Police say a man killed his aunt on 35th street in downtown Yangon and then fell from the third floor apartment and died shortly afterward.
It was not entirely clear whether the man, whom police identified as Myat Ko Hlaing, 30, jumped out of the apartment after the confrontation with his aunt or if the fall was accidental as he tried to escape.
The report in the Global New Light of Myanmar says Daw Kyin Hmwe, 65, was stabbed to death in the morning on Sunday. The victim’s niece apparently asked for help from neighbors after she herself scuffled with the alleged assailant and sustained injuries.
Shortly afterwards the fall occurred as the suspect “fled the scene,” according to the report.
Incidents of violent crime this year in various Yangon communites have worried residents so much that some communities have installed CCTV cameras.
