Only one employee was on duty at the office of MK Travels & Tours on Sunday afternoon when two masked men came in. They initially pretended to be interested in buying tickets to Singapore, but they soon drew their knives bound the woman with plastic ropes before robbing the office.
The victim told police that the robbers asked her where the office’s money was hidden, and when she refused to answer, they gagged her with a cloth and stole her jewelry, including a diamond ring.

After rummaging through the office, the robbers left with around K5 million (US$3,670) in cash.
After the robbers left, the bound employee managed to call her brother, though she was unable to speak clearly with the cloth in her mouth.
“My sister called me around 1:30pm. I couldn’t understand what she was saying, but I knew she was crying and shouting incoherently enough to know something was wrong. I rushed over to her workplace and found her all tied up around 2pm. The robbers did not take her phone, which was on the table. I called the police after untying her,” the victim’s brother told Eleven.
When the police arrived, they checked the CCTV footage which caught the robbers in the vicinity of the office while they were not wearing masks.

The two men were later caught and charged under Section 341 (Wrongful restraint) and Section 392 (Robbery) of the Penal Code. Yangon Police announced via Facebook that the robbers are around 20 years old.
