Woman bitten by snake at huge NLD rally

Aung San Suu Kyi has thanked people for coming out to the big National League for Democracy rally in Thingyangun Township yesterday, but she should reserve a special shout out for one supporter who was bitten by a snake while waiting in the crowd.

The woman, whom a rescue worker said was 50 years old, was rushed to a nearby hospital after the bite.

Aung Nay Lin from the Free Funeral Services Society (FFSS), a volunteer medical group, said the hospital was able to administer treatment and she recovered just fine. It’s unclear if the snake was poisonous.

Despite the large crowds, there were only a handful of reported injuries yesterday, including a Japanese national who badly injured his knee, according to FFSS.
