Ashin Wirathu, the hardline nationalist monk once dubbed ‘the Buddhist Bin Laden’, is seeking help after hackers took down his website.
Yesterday, the so-called Godless Atheist Hacker Group, who said they opposed religious extremism, deleted content on Wirathu’s widely-followed blog, which along with his Facebook page acts as a home for anti-Muslim rhetoric and other musings, the Myanmar Times reported.
Wirathu said all the information on the blog had been deleted.
“I have no IT expert helping me,” he said. “I would like to recover that page because it contains records, so I would appreciate some help. The post may be gone, but I am unharmed. I will just open a new page.”
He claimed the attack might have been prompted by a post titled ‘Don’t do ridiculous things’ which took aim at China.
