Water outages across Yangon could last two days: official

Vast swathes of Yangon are expected to be without water until Thursday, as local authorities scramble to repair leaking pipelines in the northern part of the city.

A senior officer from the Yangon Water and Sanitation Department told 7 Day that the pipelines had been cut yesterday near the military compound in 9 Mile while the leak was fixed.

The repairs have been complicated by the presence of telephone lines in the ground, he said.

Some parts of the six downtown townships as well as Bahan, Tamwe, Pazuntaung, Mingalar Taung Nyunt, Kamaryut, Mingalardon, Insein, Shwe Pyi Thar and Hlaing Tharyar Townships have been affected by the ongoing outage.

An official from the Yangon Municipal Council speculated that the concrete pipe was too weak to handle the water volume.
