WATCH: One of Myanmar’s new poet-lawmakers recites verse on steps of Lower House

Remember this guy?

We interviewed him in Naypyitaw a few months ago after he won his seat in a tight contest against a former defense minister.

He’s one of about a dozen poets elected on November 8. All are members of the National League for Democracy, Aung San Suu Kyi’s party.

It was his first session as a parliamentarian in the Lower House on Monday, and we chatted with him on the steps after lunch.

Asked about his latest work, translated by one of our friends as “No Retreat,” he obligingly recited it right then and there on the steps. Watch it below.

Maung Tin Thit was one of an estimated 11 poets elected as a National League for Democracy MP in November. We caught up with him on Monday on the steps of parliament after its historic first day. He recited his latest poem, entitled “No Retreat.” The translation is by Thurein Win.
