Viral: Ex-junta leader Than Shwe’s grandson pictured voting from couch

An image of former military junta leader Than Shwe’s grandson voting for the ruling party, apparently from the comfort of his couch, has gone viral as the country stages its historic election.

Nay Shwe Thway Aung can be seen in the picture, posted to Facebook, marking up an advance ballot in favor of the Union Solidarity and Development Party.

“In [President] Thein Sein…I Trust…” the caption reads.

While Than Shwe retired in 2011, many believe he still exerts great influence over politics and the ruling party.
