Video shows group violently beating ‘mentally ill’ man in Yangon after woman attacked

Myanmar Now has posted a disturbing video of a mob-like attack on a mentally ill man who had allegedly attacked a woman on a Yangon street.

The report, in Burmese, says the incident occured on August 10 on the corner of Baho Road and Myaung Mya Street in Sanchaung Township.

Apparently the man had jumped onto the roof of a taxi while it was driving and police were trying to detain him afterwards when he fled and allegedly stabbed a local woman with an iron rod.

The violent beating, which involved an umbrella and wooden sticks, seems to have occurred right after the alleged stabbing as a woman can be seen holding her neck and crying.
