A 35-year-old Yangon man is in custody today after allegedly stabbing his father to death for loving his brother more – then killing his brother too.
Ko Ko Htwe, 35, is accused of killing has father Tuesday in a fit of rage at his home in Yangon’s Kamayut Township before confronting his brother and stabbing him to death in another explosion of anger and violence.
It was at about 8:30pm, that officers from the Kamayut Police Station and Loka Theingaha Charitable Association arrived at the scene on Kwan Chan 6 Road in Kamayut’s Ward 4 to find 65-year-old Hla Toe dead.
The authorities said Ko Ko Htwe had gotten into an argument with his wife on their way to Kamayut, where his father and brother lived. After she parted from him, Ko Ko Htwe was walking to his family’s home when he saw his brother, 42-year-old Min Min Oo, drinking near the walkway to their home. At the house, he did not find his wife but did encounter his father. Ko Ko Htwe asked his dad where his wife was, and the father told him she was angry and had angrily left the house.
That’s when Ko Ko Htwe started arguing with his father, accusing him of being biased against him and favoring his older brother. He stabbed his father in the belly then went to where he’d seen his brother drinking. They got into an argument, and Ko Ko Htwe confessed to also stabbing him in the abdomen. Min Min Oo died at the scene.
“His father was taken to the hospital but died of the abdomen stabbing,” Kamarut Township Police Chief Myo Myint Aung told reporters.
The authorities did not mention whether Ko Ko Htwe was using any drugs or suffered from any mental impairment. He’s been charged with murder.
