Typo-riddled school exams refer to ‘China Republic of Myanmar’ and ask about ‘protecting forests with vaginas’

Someone charged with writing Myanmar’s exam papers this year was either having a laugh, or just really, really unlucky.

Not one, but two small yet devastating typos have amused social media users this week after papers were posted online.

In one, a General Science test handed out to students in Grades 6 to 8 in a school in the Irrawaddy Delta Region, students were asked “how to protect forests with vaginas”.

The missing word was slogan – which, in Burmese language, is unfortunately close to a slang word for vagina.

In different paper, elsewhere, a multiple choice question asked students about the ethnicities in the “China Republic of Myanmar”.

The country’s full name is the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Obviously.
