Two suspects who were detained in relation to the murder of Eleven reporter Soe Moe Tun have been released, the Monywa police station told Eleven News.
On December 19, police arrested the manager and a staff member of Blue Sky KTV in Monywa, but let them go yesterday.
“We released the manager and staff member in accordance with police procedure 169 because they didn’t have anything to do with the case. We have a remand until January 30 for the third suspect who is still under interrogation,” said Police Lieutenant Thein Swe Myint from the Monywa Police Station.
The third suspect, a log truck driver, had been arrested on January 2. His first remand had also expired yesterday, but police remanded him a second time in order to further carry out the interrogation.
Soe Moe Tun was found dead around midnight on Pyidaungsu Road on December 13. Police believe that a wooden stick found near the crime scene was used to beat the victim to death in a premeditated crime. Friends and authorities think that Soe Moe Tun’s murder was related to his investigations into illegal logging and KTV’s in Monywa and the surrounding areas.
