Two men are being charged after physically assaulting a doctor who they felt was taking too long to tend to their mother, Pyu authorities have confirmed.

The incident took place around 10pm on Tuesday night at the Pyu General Hospital.

“The doctor was tending to a patient who urgently needed treatment for dengue. The mother of the two men who punched [the doctor] also came to the hospital because she had dengue. The doctor still hadn’t treated [their mother] half an hour after they arrived, so they got angry and beat up the doctor,” a Pyu police officer confirmed to Kumudra.

The doctor sustained bruises to his face, and head.

The culprits, Ye Aung and Maung Maung Tar, are currently in custody, and are being charged under Sections 114 (“Abettor present when offence is committed”), 294 (“Obscene acts”), 332 (“Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty”), and 506 (“Punishment for criminal intimidation”) of the Myanmar Penal Code.
