A teacher in Kayin State’s Myawaddy Township has been arrested for allegedly raping four students, all of whom were underage.
Htay Win, 51, was a private tutor who taught a class that was made up of four female students ranging in age from 11 to 13 years old.
Last week, one of the 11-year-olds told her mother that she didn’t want to attend the tuition at her teacher’s house anymore, Mizzima reports. When her mom pressed as to why, the child confessed that Htay Win had taken her and the other three students into his bedroom and molested all of them during a previous tutoring session.
The mother then informed village officials, along with the parents of the other children, and filed a report with the police. Authorities arrested Htay Win at his house on Friday night, and are currently holding him for interrogation.
If convicted, Htay Win faces a prison sentence of up to 20 years — the maximum for child rape in Myanmar.
