Those extra special police who are being trained to provide security at polling booths on election day won’t be the only additional forces on patrol.
Desk workers and other unlucky employees of Yangon’s traffic police force will be hauled off regular duty to help ease the flow of cars and vehicles on November 8, according to Aung Ko Oo, a senior official with the force.
“We will use more than the normal amount working for traffic,” he told the Voice Weekly. “There will be other traffic police who used to work on violations and office stuff who will join to make the traffic clear on that day.”
Workers will cast advance votes later this week so they can be free next month to hold down Yangon’s busy intersections.
